SwedeTeam ISO 31 - Quantities and Units

This is an area where Swedes are not always consistent... The occasional Dot for thousand separation is not good. (Nor is Comma!)

Decimal Comma or Dot, Thousand Separation

Notation E.g. Who Uses - some examples
* Comma for decimals
* Space for thousands
1 609,344 (International standard - ISO 31)
Canada (Fr), Finland, France, Norway, Sweden
* Comma for decimals
* Dot for thousands
1.609,344 Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden (sometimes) (Dot for thousands IS NOT recommended - use space.)
* Dot for decimals
* Comma for thousands
1,609.344 Canada (En), UK, USA but also China, Japan, Mexico. (Comma for thousands IS NOT recommended - use space.)
* Dot for decimals
* Space for thousands
1 609.344 Decimal dot is so commonly used in English spoken countries and areas that also international standard, ISO 31, recognizes it BUT use of space for thousands separation, never comma.

(The example is the length in metres of one international mile as used in the imperial system of units. As used in UK and US, with exception for the U.S. survey mile which is 1 609,347 metres. Wiki)
